May’s Soup Kitchen for Fukushima Disaster Survivors
On May 13th, 2013, Second Harvest Japan hosted its monthly soup kitchen for evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture at their evacuation center in Saitama.
Second Harvest Japan began hosting these soup kitchens in May 2012, making this the one year anniversary of the first 2HJ evacuee soup kitchen.
Second Harvest Japan served Gomoku udon, green tea pudding, Japanese style sweets and Starbucks coffee.
2HJ received donations of oranges and tomatoes, which we then handed out to participants.
Volunteers formed an assembly line to boil the noodles, add the other ingredients, and finally finish off the gomoku-udon by adding the soup.
Below is a picture of all staff and volunteers who helped out with the soup kitchen.
Evacuees told 2HJ staff and volunteers that they enjoyed the meal, and were grateful for the ongoing support.
Second Harvest Japan is in turn thankful for the support of cooperating companies, volunteers and sponsors that make these monthly soup kitchens possible.
See you next time!
