Fight hunger this holiday season!

Campaign to raise 1 million meals

Second Harvest Japan (2hj) works to make sure that people have enough food. As the first incorporated food bank in Japan (2002) they source food donations from a wide variety of sources and provide that to people in need in Japan. Through the end of the year they are selling raffle tickets with the goal of raising equivalent in funding of 1 million in meals (FY2016 average cost per meal was \25). Many sponsors have come forward to provide prizes for this campaign.  

Details of the Campaign

Title：        No Hunger for the Holidays

Period：    Through 23:59, Sunday, December 31

Raffle ticket：    1,000JPY donation per ticket. You can have as many as ticket you would like

Drawing：    Drawing will be held via live broadcast on January 5th.

Prize Winners：Winning numbers will be posted online. Prizes must be claimed by the

February 28, 2018.

The goal of 2hj is to achieve a society with a food safety net where people can access food assistance in their community at any time they need. 2hj has been running a project called “Tokyo 2020: Food for 100,000”, aiming to create a food safety-net in which 100,000 unique users can access food assistance in Tokyo in 2020. To accomplish this goal we need to work with a wide range of stakeholders that include government agencies, welfare institutions, NPOs, faith-based groups, schools, food companies, and financial institutions. We hope this raffle to be an opportunity for more people to participate in the charity campaign more casually and to become aware of the need of food support, and ultimately, to increase momentum in our society toward creating a food safety net.

【About Second Harvest Japan】

Second Harvest Japan is working to create a food safety-net for so that those in need such as single-parent households, the elderly, refugees and migrant workers, as well as low-income households can have access to food assistance. Second Harvest Japan also provide food to over 260 welfare institutions, NPOs, faith-based groups, regional food banks and after-school programs each month. As of December 11, 2017, they have signed donor agreements with over 1,400 companies and organizations. Second Harvest Japan continues to pioneer food banking.

【About “Tokyo 2020: Food for 100,000” Project】

“Tokyo 2020: Food for 100,00” has the goal of creating a food safety-net in which 100,000 unique users can access food assistance in Tokyo in 2020. We are collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders such as food donors, financial supporters, government agencies, faith-based groups, NPOs, and individuals to increase the number of food pantries where people can access food assistance. At the same time, the project has been replicated in other areas such as Kanagawa and Saitama. By 2020, we hope to serve 60,000 individuals in these two prefectures.
