With assistance from volunteers from other food banks and WFP, we were able to put up the tent in heat today. Glad to have gotten it done before rain starts! We shared information with other food banks to explore ways to work together.]
We will be collecting food until May 14th (Saturday) to support those households who were victims of the earthquake in Kumamoto. This is an opportunity for individuals, churches, schools, and companies to make a contribution to the relief efforts. We will be using the collected food to make care packages which will be sent by Takyubin.
We are collecting the following items – Rice – Canned goods (fish, meat, fruit) – Pasta / noodles (udon, soba, spaghetti) – Cup noodles – Snacks
Please make sure there is at least three months remaining until it expires and that they are unopened (rice is the only exception)

[2HJ delivered emergency provisions to Tenrikyo warehouse in Tamana City, Kumamoto yesterday. 2HJ truck made delivery to four evacuation centers from Central Gym in Yamato City today. Plenty of emergency food/supplies at Central Location but not enough vehicles or manpower to deliver to where they are needed the most.]
[Second 2HJ truck, driven by Charles and a volunteer, just arrived at Kumamoto Prefectural Government to join force with Mr. Harada of Foodbank Kagoshima. As requested by officials, 2HJ team is heading towards Ogunimachi in Northern Aso with emergency provisions.]
[Report from 2HJ Staff in Kumamoto: A couple with a cute dog at Evacuation Center send a message to all of us : “We felt devasted after our house was destroyed, but seeing you (working hard to help us) really cheers us up and makes us feel that we should try our best. So thank you!” Many residents (myself included) sleep in their cars as there have been many aftershocks, including 5+ magnitude around 9pm on Monday. Teams from self-defense force and fire department patrol all night long, and people are very calm.]

At destination, municipal workers helped me unload 45 cases (1080 cans) of bread.]
