About ADOPT A FAMILY Project

Corporations or organizations that are participants of this program select the number of low income families that they want to support, and prepare packages that fit the specific needs of each family. Completed packages are delivered to the respective families by 2HJ.

Poverty rate among children

Background Information about the Project // Child Poverty in Japan

In 2012, the child poverty rate was 16.3%, which was 0.2% higher in comparison to Japan's relative poverty rate of 16.1%. There has been reports where students return to school after long breaks (ex. summer break) gotten much thinner, because the only opportunity to eat a consistent meal was at school. Additionally, some families are no longer able to put food on the table, because critical times such as school admissions and graduations call for greater financial demands.

Such reports are simply revealing just the tip of the iceberg, and it is easy to infer that there are many children that are in such situation.

  • Source: Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, "Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions" *The relative poverty rate is determined by OECD standards. According to www.data.oecd.org, "The poverty rate is the ratio of the number of people (in a given age group) whose income falls below the poverty line; taken as half the median household income of the total population.

Goals of the Project

Dietary lifestyle greatly affects the development and growth of children. We believe that dietary sponsorship for these children not only restores children’s healthy growth, but also fosters an environment where parents can fully concentrate on raising his/her child(ren).

The concept behind the ADOPT A FAMILY Project is to “provide a meal just like a family member would.”
We encourage participation from schools, corporations, and organizations to create a specialized assortment of food items according to the situation of the target household and its nutritional needs.

“We got a gift from Santa!”
“My heart was beating from excitement when opening the box.”
“There was a snack that I couldn’t buy normally, so my parents and I were so happy.”

Above are some of the responses from those that received a package through this project.
