《updated Mar 14, 2024》Report : 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake

[Published on: Mar 14, 2024]

Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) has been preparing to open its Nakanoto base as “hub” to provide not only emergency supports but also mid to long-term supports in the future.

“Second Harvest Japan Nakanoto base” is close to the disaster areas and has a good access to the main road, becoming very convenient for direct transportation from 2HJ’s warehouse in Kanto as well as partner companies. It’s also spacious enough for food storage. We plan to continue providing support based on needs from the disaster-stricken areas with disaster support organizations, local organizations and companies in Ishikawa and other prefectures.

2HJ will collaborate with the disaster relief group “Gorilla” and other local organizations to run a soup kitchen from Mar. 17th to 21st at the Wakura Onsen Festival Hall parking lot in Nanao city.

2HJ needs your supports to the activities.

2HJ appreciates your donation, which will be used to support areas affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, and other 2HJ activities.

Our heart goes out to those affected by Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Jan. 2024.

Second Harvest Japan(2HJ) departed from Tokyo on the morning of Feb. 6th . This is the third drive for us to support the affected area. Due to severe road conditions, including highway closures caused by heavy snow, we arrived at the site much later than originally planned, however along the way, could deliver food to evacuated soccer club members from a high school in Ishikawa Prefecture.

2HJ in collaboration with the disaster relief group Gorilla and local organizations are running a soup kitchen from Feb. 7th to 13th at Nakajima Elementary School in Nanao-city. In addition, we delivered food to areas such as Wajima-city where AAR Japan and the affiliated temple continues to conduct soup kitchens, and visited NICCO which has been supporting the around area. 2HJ also brought in requested food for Peace Boat in Suzu-city.

The food 2HJ brought in this time included frozen cut vegetables from Tokyo Children & Family Supporters, which is easy to use even under emergency situations and raw eggs, and disposable containers donated by KOHSOKU., LTD, which are essential to serve meals in areas without water supply.

Many victims are still forced to live in evacuation centers. While prioritizing emergency support, 2HJ considers mid to long-term support during the recovery and reconstruction period in the future, so that we have been assessing the current disaster supports and also conducting property searches of local warehouses and other properties to secure future bases of activity in the disaster-stricken areas.

Our heart goes out to those affected by Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Jan. 2024.

Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) departed on the morning of Jan. 16th to support a soup kitchen at the Nanao-city community center and provide food based on the needs of other areas such as Wajima city where AAR Japan and the affiliated temple continue to conduct soup kitchens, and visited NICCO which has been supporting the around area. 2HJ also brought in requested food for Peace Boat in Suzu city. This would be the second drive for 2HJ to support the disaster-stricken areas since the earthquake occurred.

2HJ has conducted the soup kitchen from Jan. 7th to 16th together with disaster relief organizations including Gorilla and other organizations. The menu included a variety of main and side dishes to provide a good nutritional balance and those were always with hot soups for people living in harshly cold evacuation centers. Frozen cut vegetables 2HJ had brought in the site were used in abundance, and the disaster victims appreciated very much for the effort. The vegetables have been developed by Tokyo Children & Family Supporters in order to provide busy mothers with something easy to use and keep. It has become only possible with the collaborative network formed with 2HJ, affiliated organizations and companies to be actively used not only for operations as usual, but also under emergency situations. The disposable containers donated by KOHSOKU CO., LTD, which are essential to serve meals in areas without water supply are also one of the examples for the networking effort.

The first round of the soup kitchen had served 12,620 meals to 3,550 people in total over 10 days.

2HJ visited organizations in disaster-stricken areas as well as the local government parties for hearings and conducted surveys in order to provide continuous emergency support and also plan medium-term supports will be essential in near future.
